Recipe: Blended Brandy Alexander (serves two)
- 2 oz. Cognac (or brandy)
- 2 oz. crème de cacao
- 1/2 cup vanilla gelato (or ice cream)
- 1/2 cup milk
- Ground nutmeg
Mix Cognac, crème de cacao, gelato, and milk in a blender until smooth. Pour into cocktail glasses. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
This cocktail is delicious for dessert; it’s essentially an alcoholic milkshake. It’s a variant on the traditional Brandy Alexander, which uses heavy cream in place of the milk and gelato, and dates back to the early 1900’s. The Brandy Alexander is descended from the Alexander cocktail, which used gin instead of brandy — a less popular choice today.
