This recipe is adapted from abeautifulmess. We like how simple this recipe is — and it’s delicious. Many spiced cider recipes call for extra sugar, but we think this is plenty sweet. It’s good both with and without rum.
The Rum. The original recipe calls for spiced rum. After reading spiced rum reviews from inuakena.com, we tried making our our own and adding it to this recipe. In the end, though, we preferred Myers’s Original Dark Rum, not to mention that it’s much simpler. We also tried it with gold rum (too sweet) and Bacardi Dark, but the toasty aromas from Myers’s really work well.
