Boulevardier

boulevardier

Recipe: Boulevardier (serves one)

  • 1 1/2 oz. rye (or bourbon)
  • 1 oz. sweet vermouth
  • 1 oz. Campari
  • orange twist

Stir liquid ingredients in a shaker with ice. Strain into chilled cocktail glass and garnish with orange twist.

The Boulevardier is essentially a whiskey Negroni, and is definitely something to try if you like bitter drinks. The amount of whiskey varies from 1 oz. to 1 1/2 oz. in recipes. We prefer using the larger amount so it isn’t overwhelmed by the Campari. The cocktail ends up richer in flavor than the standard Negroni.

The name of this drink originally referred to fashionable types who would stroll along the boulevards of Paris. But we think it’s appropriate to serve along Ventura Boulevard or Sunset Boulevard, right here in LA.
