Magic Hour

Magic Hour cocktail

Recipe: Magic Hour (serves one)

  • 1 1/2 oz. Lillet Rosé aperitif
  • 1/2 oz. pink grapefruit juice
  • 1 tsp yellow Chartreuse
  • sparkling wine
  • grapefruit twist

Combine liquid ingredients, except sparkling wine, in ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake well, then strain into champagne flute. Top with sparkling wine and garnish with grapefruit twist.

Happy new year! We had leftover champagne, so we made this refreshing cocktail to celebrate the end of the first day of the new year. The recipe was developed by Tom Macy at Clover Club in Brooklyn (our version leaves out the teaspoon of simple syrup). He notes that the Lillet Rosé can also be replaced with the more widely available Lillet Blanc.

The cocktail is named for the time of day just after sunrise or just before sunset, when the light is soft and pink. It’s a perfect time to take photos, or enjoy this drink!
