Recipe: Basil Vodka Gimlet (serves one)
- 1 1/2 oz. vodka
- 1 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
- 1 1/2 oz. basil lemon syrup
- Lemon twist and basil leaf
Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour into ice-filled rocks glass and garnish with the lemon twist and basil leaf.

Ingredients (makes 2.5 cups or 20 oz., more than 13 cocktails):
- 1/4 lb. fresh basil
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 9 (2″ by 1″) strips lemon peel
Remove stems from basil. Bring ingredients to a boil in a saucepan, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Cover pan and let stand at room temperature for 1 hour. Place covered pan in refrigerator for 1 hour to cool. Strain syrup into container, discarding solids.
