Recipe: Poison Apple (serves one)
- 1 1/2 oz. brandy
- 1/2 oz. vodka
- 2 oz. apple juice (preferably cold-pressed) or apple cider
- 1 oz. pure cranberry juice
- sprinkle of nutmeg
Stir liquid ingredients in shaker with ice. Strain into cocktail glass. Garnish with nutmeg and scary, glowing pumpkin head.
When we visited Carthay Circle Lounge on our latest trip to Disneyland, we noticed people drinking a cocktail with an unnatural red glow. It turned out to be the Poison Apple, a Halloween special made with apple-infused whiskey and Apple Pucker and served with a souvenir glowing pumpkin head.
We tried to recreate the essence of the cocktail without any special apple-flavored liqueurs. We managed to capture the tart apple flavor and aroma, with a bit less sweetness. Even if you don’t have a glowing head to float in it, it’s a good treat for Halloween.
