Recipe: The French Intervention (serves one or two)
- 2 1/2 oz. reposado tequila
- 1/4 oz. elderflower liqueur (such as St-Germain)
- 1/4 oz. artichoke liqueur (such as Cynar)
- 2 dashes (= 1/4 tsp.) Angostura bitters
- lemon twist
Stir liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into cocktail glass and garnish with lemon twist.
Last weekend, we went to Eataly LA, where they have a large selection of Italian amaros and other bitter liqueurs. We’d had artichoke liqueurs in cocktails at restaurants, but not at home. We ended up buying bottles of both C3 Carciofo and Cynar to try out. The C3 is more bitter and complex, but the Cynar is sweeter, smother, and easier to drink as an aperitif. Both are quite good in this cocktail, inspired by a recipe from Wonderland Kitchen (the name comes from the other two main ingredients).
