Recipe: White Lady (serves one)
- 1 1/2 oz. gin
- 3/4 oz. Cointreau
- 3/4 oz. lemon juice
- lemon twist
Combine liquid ingredients in ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake well, then strain into cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon twist.
The White Lady has just three ingredients, all of which can be found in just about any bar. And it’s a classic recipe, dating back at least to the 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book. But we hadn’t tried it (or even heard of it) until recently. Turns out we like it a lot: it’s deliciously balanced and refreshing.
It’s easiest to think of the White Lady as a gin margarita, with lemon instead of lime. You could also say it’s a Sidecar with gin in place of the cognac — but since it uses a clear spirit instead of an aged one, it has more of a margarita-like vibe.
